Report: Washington Commanders now interested in multiple Miami Dolphins assistants for offensive coordinator position

The Washington Commanders are searching for a new offensive coordinator, and it seems like they’re looking in the direction of the Miami Dolphins.

Washington’s interest in Dolphins quarterbacks coach Darrell Bevell is already known, but now, it sounds like the Commanders are also eyeing Dolphins running backs coach Eric Studesville.

Studesville has been with the Dolphins since 2018. He has survived multiple coaching changes during his time with the organization, which may indicate the value he brings to the team.

The Commanders definitely need some new life on the offensive side of the football. The team averaged just 18.9 points per game in the 2022 regular season and missed the playoffs.

Overall, Washington was the epitome of mediocre this season. Despite playing a 17-game schedule, the squad still managed to finish exactly at .500 by going 8-8-1.

The Commanders last made the playoffs in the 2020 season, when they snuck in with a 7-9 record. The organization hasn’t won a playoff game since the 2005 season, and fans are certainly itching for that to change.

Unfortunately for Dolphins fans, they know the feeling. Miami hasn’t won a playoff game since the 2000 season. There are plenty of Dolphins fans today that aren’t old enough to remember the last time the franchise won a game in the postseason.

Miami did take a big step forward this season by making the playoffs and posting a winning record in the regular season for a third consecutive year. In the playoffs, the Dolphins put up a really good fight against the Buffalo Bills, but Miami fell short and was dealt a 34-31 defeat.

On one hand, losing Studesville would certainly be salt in the wound for the Dolphins. On the other hand, Studesville landing the Washington gig would be a major accomplishment for the 55-year-old, and Dolphins fans would certainly wish him the best in that role.

It’s unclear just how serious of a contender Studesville is for the job.

The Dolphins, meanwhile, will look to get healthy this offseason and perhaps touch up their roster in some areas. The team is in good shape moving forward and will look to build off of its playoff bid this season.
