Report: Stephen Ross expected to be ‘intrigued’ by acquiring Aaron Rodgers

A new report indicates that Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross could conceivably consider trading for Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Armando Salguero of OutKick.com noted that the inability of Tua Tagovailoa to stay healthy and recent comments from Rodgers could get the attention of Ross.

“Finally, the Dolphins have to make a decision on Tua Tagovailoa,” Salguero wrote. “Are they willing to run it back with him as the starter when he’s been unable to stay healthy?

“And let’s just say Aaron Rodgers really meant what he said two weeks ago about playing in Miami. … If that is serious, Ross will be intrigued.”

The speculation about Rodgers playing for the Dolphins heightened as a result of a postgame interview he gave after the Packers’ 26-20 win over the Dolphins on Christmas Day.

In that same game, Tagovailoa suffered another concussion late in the first half. That injury noticeably affected his performance, with the Dolphins being shut out in the second half and Tagovailoa throwing three interceptions.

Whether or not Rodgers was serious about his future plans or simply happy about the Packers’ comeback win is uncertain. He’s spent his entire career in a Packers uniform and long ago established his credentials for election into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Exactly when that induction takes place depends on whenever Rodgers decides to retire. He appears to be in no hurry to leave and could follow the path of Tampa Bay Buccaneers signal-caller Tom Brady, whose first NFL season was in 2000.

Rodgers turned 39 last month, so he’s definitely getting closer to retirement. Yet, he continues to deliver on the field and has led the Packers to a four-game winning streak and a potential playoff berth.

This season, Rodgers has thrown for 3,490 yards and 25 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. That interception total marked the first time since 2010 that he’s reached double figures in that category.

In contrast, the Dolphins are in the midst of a five-game losing streak that could again keep them out of the playoff picture. Tagovailoa was unable to play in Sunday’s loss to the New England Patriots.

If Ross does go forth and acquire Rodgers, the deal could be seen by some as a quick fix that will hopefully pay off. If a trade doesn’t come to fruition, the Dolphins will have to hope that Tagovailoa can remain healthy and especially avoid further concussions.
