The Miami Dolphins made a couple of moves to their offensive line on Monday, as the team reportedly signed free agent Eric Fisher and placed Austin Jackson on injured reserve.
Jackson will have to miss a minimum of four games before being able to return. This is the second time this season that he has been placed on injured reserve, previously landing on the list after suffering an ankle injury during Miami’s Week 1 win over the New England Patriots.
The University of Southern California product didn’t make his return until Week 12 against the Houston Texans and was forced to miss the team’s 33-17 loss on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers.
Miami is surely hoping that Fisher will be able to turn back the clock and provide some stability on the offensive line. After spending the first eight seasons of his career with the Kansas City Chiefs, Fisher joined the Indianapolis Colts for the 2021 season and struggled throughout the campaign.
The Colts didn’t re-sign him after the season, and he has been without a team since. Hopefully, he’ll be able to do well protecting Tua Tagovailoa.
Fisher is a two-time Pro Bowler and one-time Super Bowl champion. He was drafted with the No. 1 overall pick by the Chiefs in the 2013 NFL Draft out of Central Michigan University.
Terron Armstead, the Dolphins’ starting left tackle, missed the game against the 49ers with a pectoral injury. Miami is surely hoping that it can count on him for its Week 14 Sunday Night Football matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Miami is 8-4 and second in the AFC East, just one game behind the Buffalo Bills for the division lead. Due to losing on Sunday and falling behind in the division race, the Dolphins now hold the No. 6 seed in the conference.
They will take on the Bills on the road in Week 15 in a matchup that might end up deciding who wins the division this season. They also still have two more divisional games beyond that, with one against the New England Patriots and one versus the New York Jets.
For now, however, Miami is likely focused on the Chargers and helping Fisher get up to speed.
