Jarvis Landry prematurely congratulates Jaylen Waddle for breaking his Miami Dolphins record

Even though his Miami Dolphins team record is about to fall, former Dolphins wide receiver Jarvis Landry is offering a salute to Jaylen Waddle.

Landry is currently playing for the New Orleans Saints but first began his NFL career as a second-round selection by the Dolphins in the 2014 NFL Draft.

During Landry’s rookie season that year, he caught 84 passes for 758 yards and five touchdown receptions. He avoided any sophomore jinx in the 2015 campaign by grabbing 110 passes for 1,157 yards and four scores.

Landry then spent two more seasons with the Dolphins and concluded his stretch with the team with a league-high 112 receptions in the 2017 season. He was then dealt to the Cleveland Browns in 2018 and spent his next four seasons there before signing with the Saints during the past offseason.

Based on Waddle’s production in less than two full seasons, the Dolphins likely have no plans to trade him away and will be eager to re-sign him at the appropriate time.

Waddle was the sixth overall selection by the Dolphins in the 2021 NFL Draft and immediately showed why he was such a high pick. Teaming primarily with former University of Alabama teammate Tua Tagovailoa, Waddle had 104 receptions for 1,015 yards and six touchdowns in his rookie season.

In one of his top performances of that rookie season, Waddle torched the Carolina Panthers on nine receptions for 137 yards and one touchdown.

After 10 games this season, Waddle has 51 receptions for 878 yards and already matched last season’s touchdown output with six touchdown grabs.

Waddle hasn’t been the team’s main offensive weapon this season. That’s because Tyreek Hill has more than lived up to the investment the Dolphins made to acquire him. In his 10 games this season, the prolific Hill already has 81 receptions for 1,148 yards and four touchdowns.

In the Dolphins’ second game of the year this season, the tandem of Waddle and Hill showed just how dangerous they can be by catching four touchdowns in a stirring comeback win.

Waddle will almost certainly break Landry’s team record on Sunday, considering the Dolphins are facing the woeful Houston Texans. Just how many receiving yards Waddle has at the end of his NFL career is an answer that’s hopefully years away from being determined.
