Though Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is not known for having the strongest arm, he has been heralded as an incredibly accurate quarterback throughout his football career.
Despite that, the young passer received zero votes from a panel of analysts in a ranking of the league’s most accurate quarterbacks.
At the end of the day, this decision is not very surprising. It’s even less important.
No one knows better than Tagovailoa himself how much rests on his performance in the upcoming campaign. He enters the season with the best offense around him since his NFL career began.
If he can capitalize on that fact and make it clear that he has what it takes to be a franchise quarterback, the Dolphins will happily move forward with him. If he fails to take that next leap, it’s quite likely the Dolphins will look at other options next offseason.
In the Dolphins’ preseason loss to the Las Vegas Raiders on Saturday, Tagovailoa played just a handful of snaps. However, he did look rather sharp. He finished with six completions on eight attempts for 58 yards.
Once the regular season gets underway, fans can expect Miami’s offense to open things up a lot more. That’s when the discussion about Tagovailoa’s future will really get underway.
Until then, it will simply continue to be speculation and presumptions made based on old information.
Hopefully, Tagovailoa does more than enough to prove the analysts wrong in the 2022 season.
