NFL coach says Tua Tagovailoa needs to accomplish 2 goals for his 2022 season to be a success

While a number of players on the Miami Dolphins have pressure on them heading into the 2022 NFL season, there is no arguing against the fact that quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is dealing with the most.

Tagovailoa was drafted by the Dolphins with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, and he has yet to really prove that he has what it takes to be a franchise quarterback.

To make matters worse, a number of quarterbacks in his draft class have already impressed.

According to one NFL offensive coach, there are two things Tagovailoa must do in the upcoming season if he wants to be able to call it a success.

“He is being set up for success with a running game, defense, offensive line and then obviously the impact players at the skill positions,” the coach told Mike Sando of The Athletic. “If there is ever a time for him to be successful, it is this season. What is success? Staying healthy all year and leading his team to the playoffs.”

The two boxes Tagovailoa has to check according to the coach are relatively realistic. The passer has missed games in each NFL season he’s played in, but he’s surely eager to stay on the field for the entirety of the 2022 season.

As for earning a playoff berth, the Dolphins have been on the doorstep in each of the past two seasons. They should be right there again this season. All they have to do is fully execute to end their playoff drought.

This offseason, Miami’s front office made it abundantly clear that it wants to put Tagovailoa in a position to succeed. There is plenty of new talent on the offensive side of the ball, which should help the young passer immensely.

However, the team’s front office can only do so much when it comes to dictating how Tagovailoa performs on Sundays. In the end, his success or failure is going to be based on his health and play on the field.
