Miami Dolphins news: Dolphins make a plethora of signings as rookie mini camp begins

The Miami Dolphins signed a pair of their 2022 draft picks and several undrafted free agents on Friday.

The Dolphins signed both of their seventh-round picks, quarterback Skylar Thompson and linebacker Cameron Goode, to their rookie contracts.

Thompson played his collegiate ball at Kansas State University. He threw 42 touchdowns and 16 interceptions over five seasons. In his final season at Kansas State in 2021, Thompson appeared in 10 games and threw for 2,103 yards, 12 touchdowns and four interceptions.

Goode, a standout at the University of California, recorded 20.5 sacks and 36 tackles for loss during his college career. He should provide the Dolphins with some solid depth at linebacker in the 2022 season.

Goode and Thompson weren’t the only players the Dolphins signed to deals on Friday, as they brought in 14 undrafted free agents as well.

“The Miami Dolphins today announced they have signed 14 undrafted college free agents: offensive lineman Blaise Andries, defensive lineman Owen Carney, offensive lineman Ty Clary, tight end Tanner Conner, offensive lineman Kellen Diesch, cornerback Elijah Hamilton, punter Tommy Heatherly, linebacker Deandre Johnson, cornerback Kader Kohou, safety Verone McKinley, wide receiver Braylon Sanders, defensive lineman Ben Stille, running back ZaQuandre White and defensive lineman Jordan Williams,” the team announced in a press release.

Every year, teams in the NFL find some diamonds in the rough among undrafted free agents, and the Dolphins certainly are trying to strike gold in that way.

Thompson and Goode certainly will have much higher expectations from Miami’s front office and coaching staff than any of the undrafted players entering training camp.

The Dolphins finished the 2021 season with a 9-8 record. They will be under new leadership in the 2022 season with head coach Mike McDaniel.
