Report: Miami Dolphins make huge decision regarding Christian Wilkins’ future
- Updated: April 28, 2022
To the surprise of few, the Miami Dolphins are reportedly exercising the fifth-year option on defensive lineman Christian Wilkins’ contract.
The Dolphins are exercising the 5th year option on DT Christian Wilkins, per source.
Miami views Wilkins as a foundational player for their defensive identity with his energy and work ethic. A lot of steady improvement since being drafted including a strong 2021 campaign.

Over the past three seasons, Wilkins has developed into a key piece for the Dolphins’ defense. He originally was drafted by the team with the 13th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
The 2021 season was undoubtedly his best one in the NFL. He recorded 89 combined tackles, 4.5 sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
The Clemson University product has improved each season he’s been in the league, and he’s surely hoping to take another step forward during the 2022 season.
Given Miami’s feelings about Wilkins, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the two sides attempt to hammer out an extension sometime soon.
