With the 2022 NFL Draft coming up later this month, a new report indicates that the Miami Dolphins are one of several teams that will soon meet with talented University of Hawaii defensive back Cortez Davis.
Davis, who’s listed as 5-foot-11 and 180 pounds, played three seasons with the Rainbow Warriors and is coming off of a solid showing in 2021. He racked up 18 passes defended, 48 total tackles, one interception and one forced fumble last season.
During his first season at Hawaii in 2019, Davis scored a touchdown after securing an interception. He also contributed 53 total tackles and 12 passes defended.
Due to COVID-19, the Rainbow Warriors played just nine games in the 2020 season. Davis played in eight of those contests and ended the season with 30 total tackles, two forced fumbles and one pass defended.
Davis’ size isn’t imposing. However, the intangibles he showed on the field during his collegiate career make him an intriguing option for any team.
While the Dolphins just rewarded veteran cornerback Xavien Howard with a new contract, the team is always looking to bolster the talent level on its roster.
Right now, Davis isn’t expected to be chosen until late in the 2022 draft. Yet, making every effort to get as much information as possible on players is one of the keys to having a successful draft for any team.
With Mike McDaniel now at the helm for the Dolphins, the team is looking to head into the 2022 season with some momentum and earn a bid to the playoffs.
