Report: There was ‘strong buzz’ that Terron Armstead ‘really’ wanted to be in Miami

Miami Dolphins fans were growing nervous as they watched notable offensive linemen sign elsewhere throughout the early stages of free agency.

That nervousness turned into glee, however, when veteran tackle Terron Armstead agreed to a five-year deal with the team on Tuesday.

According to a report, it seems like the three-time Pro Bowler very much wanted to be in Miami.

“He came in at five years and up to $87.5 million,” Jeremy Fowler of ESPN wrote. “While he isn’t hitting $20 million annually, it’s worth noting there was strong buzz that Armstead really wanted to be in Miami. Like, real bad. Take-less-money bad.”

The work that the Dolphins have done thus far in the offseason is coming into focus, and it’s looking pretty solid overall.

Besides Armstead, the Dolphins have also added guard Connor Williams, receiver Cedrick Wilson Jr. and running back Raheem Mostert among others. They have also managed to re-sign a number of valuable players from last season’s roster.

Armstead, who spent the first nine seasons of his career with the New Orleans Saints, is likely going to be the Dolphins’ biggest splash in free agency this offseason. Now, it stands to reason that the primary focus of Miami’s front office will turn to the upcoming 2022 NFL Draft.

With the incoming draft class loaded with talent at positions of need for the Dolphins, new head coach Mike McDaniel and the team’s front office will likely try to enjoy as much success in the draft as they have in free agency.

The Dolphins are looking to make it back to the playoffs for the first time since the 2016 season. Only time will tell if they accomplish that lofty goal.
