Report: Miami Dolphins would have ‘great interest’ in signing Amari Cooper if he’s released

The Miami Dolphins reportedly have “great interest” in signing wide receiver Amari Cooper if he is released by the Dallas Cowboys this offseason.

The Dolphins’ divisional rival, the New England Patriots, also are expected to have interest in Cooper’s services if he is available.

There’s no doubt that Cooper would upgrade Miami’s offense, and he would help fill the void that could be left by free agent receiver Will Fuller. Fuller struggled with injuries last season for Miami, so the Dolphins are still looking for the right fit between Jaylen Waddle and DeVante Parker.

Cooper’s presence would also help young quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, as he’d have another proven weapon on the outside at his disposal in the 2022 season.

Last season for Dallas, Cooper appeared in 15 games and was targeted 104 times. He caught 68 passes for 865 yards and eight touchdowns. However, with the Cowboys looking to bring back free agent receiver Michael Gallup, Cooper and his huge salary may be expendable this offseason.

Miami won’t be the only team to pursue Cooper, but the team can present a solid case as an up-and-coming roster with an accurate quarterback like Tagovailoa and innovative head coach in Mike McDaniel.

Cooper has five seasons with 1,000-plus receiving yards, and he could help mentor Waddle, who was the team’s No. 6 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Last season, the Dolphins finished with a 9-8 record, and they rebounded well after starting the season just 1-7. Cooper would certainly help make the Dolphins contenders next season.
