Report: Brian Daboll ‘very high’ on Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa

One of the final candidates for the vacant Miami Dolphins head coaching position, Brian Daboll, is reported to be positive about the possibility of teaming up with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

Daboll has spent the last four seasons as the Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator. The Bills’ Super Bowl hopes were cut short after a heartbreaking loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. The Buffalo coordinator has helped turn the Bills offense into a juggernaut the past few seasons.

The Bills finished as the fifth overall team in total yards per game during the 2021 regular season with 381.9 total yards per game. Buffalo was the third highest scoring team in terms of points in the regular season. The Bills’ offense has seemed to get better and better in every season under Daboll’s guidance as quarterback Josh Allen has continued to improve.

Having the opportunity to team up with another young quarterback in Tagovailoa could ultimately help him continue his growth going into his third season. Whether or not Tagovailoa can reach the heights Allen has with the Dolphins’ AFC East division rivals is unclear.

The young Miami quarterback improved his numbers in his second season under center, finishing with 2,653 passing yards, 16 passing touchdowns and 10 interceptions. The Dolphins quarterback helped Miami contend for a spot in the postseason in 2021 before coming up just short after a late season loss to the Tennessee Titans.

The Dolphins were 0-2 against this the Bills this past season, losing by double digits in both meetings. Miami has been reported to be setting up second interviews next week with their final coaching candidates, including Daboll.

Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore and San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel are the other candidates expected to interview with Miami next week. McDaniels and the 49ers will face off with the Los Angeles Rams this weekend for a trip to the Super Bowl.
