Report: Miami Dolphins elevate Duke Johnson from practice squad for game vs. New York Jets

The Miami Dolphins have played their best football of the 2021 season in recent weeks, and they’re hoping to keep things moving in the right direction this Sunday against the New York Jets.

Ahead of the matchup, the team has reportedly decided to elevate running back Duke Johnson from the practice squad.

Johnson has not appeared in a game yet this season. The 28-year-old will hope to get some playing time with the Dolphins and prove that he still has some gas left in the tank.

The former third-round pick has played in six seasons at the NFL level. Four came with the Cleveland Browns and two came with the Houston Texans.

In his most recent run at the NFL level, he appeared in 11 games with the Texans in the 2020 campaign. It wasn’t his best showing, as he racked up just 235 total rushing yards on 77 attempts. He did add some value through the air, catching 28 passes for 249 yards.

The Dolphins are trying to win their third straight game and perhaps keep a glimmer of hope alive for a potential playoff bid. The team has an underwhelming 3-7 record, but Miami has some very winnable games coming up.

If the squad can find a way to keep things rolling, things could get somewhat interesting. In order for that to happen, however, the Dolphins will have to start by beating the lowly Jets this Sunday.

It’ll be interesting to see if Johnson ends up making an impact in this weekend’s matchup and for the remainder of the season.
