Unnamed Miami Dolphins player hits out at Tua Tagovailoa’s leadership: ‘It’s not Fitz’

An unnamed Miami Dolphins player recently made a bold statement regarding the leadership of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

The player suggested that Tagovailoa’s leadership doesn’t compare to that of Ryan Fitzpatrick.

“He’s great, and he’s trying,” the unnamed player said to Omar Kelly of the Sun Sentinel regarding Tagovailoa’s leadership. “But it’s not Fitz.”

Fitzpatrick has been in the NFL since the 2005 season, so it’s easy to understand why he’s often regarded as a great leader.

The veteran spent the 2019 and 2020 seasons with the Dolphins before leaving Miami to join the Washington Football Team. During his time with the Dolphins, he clearly made a big impact on some players.

Fitzpatrick and Tagovailoa shared quarterback duties throughout the 2020 season. Although Tagovailoa got more starts than Fitzpatrick did, the team often turned to the veteran in high-leverage situations.

Miami ultimately missed the playoffs despite a strong regular season.

Tagovailoa’s future with the Dolphins is somewhat of a mystery right now. It remains to be seen how much longer he will find himself with the organization.
