Report: NFL source claims Miami Dolphins would only get 3rd-round pick in return for Xavien Howard

There has recently been some speculation about the possibility of the Miami Dolphins trading star cornerback Xavien Howard.

However, it sounds like if the Dolphins were to trade the two-time Pro Bowler, the return could be underwhelming.

“One league source predicted that, unless they eat some of the money he is still owed, all the Dolphins would get for Howard is a third-round pick — a return that would surely infuriate the fan base,” wrote Adam H. Beasley of Pro Football Network. “But the reality is Howard has missed 25 games in his career due to a series of injuries, most notably to his knees, and he will want a raise from whichever team acquires him.”

It remains to be seen how serious the Dolphins are about trading the 28-year-old, but if they do find a deal for him, fans would surely hope to see a handsome return.

In five games this season, Howard has six passes defended, an interception, forced fumble and fumble recovery to his credit.

In the 2020 campaign, the former second-round pick racked up some massive numbers. He led the league in passes defended and interceptions.

Howard has spent his entire pro career with Miami since being drafted by the organization in 2016, but it certainly seems like his future is somewhat of a mystery. It’ll be interesting to see if he ends up getting moved this season.
