NFL executive says Green Bay Packers should complete trade with Miami Dolphins for Xavien Howard

The NFL trade deadline is coming up soon, which means teams around the league will have to decide whether to buy or sell.

One NFL executive thinks the Green Bay Packers should trade for Miami Dolphins star cornerback Xavien Howard.

“Xavien is a guy I’d trade for if I’m Green Bay,” an exec told The Athletic’s Mike Sando. “Traditionally, you are not getting a guy of that caliber to come to Green Bay in free agency, right? You need to acquire guys via the draft or trade. Especially in the future, if Rodgers is not there.”

The Dolphins are currently 1-5 on the season after a loss on Sunday to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Miami has now lost five straight games after winning its season opener against the New England Patriots. The losing streak could turn the Dolphins into sellers at the trade deadline.

Howard had previously requested a trade in the offseason as he looked to restructure his old contract. Miami initially did not budge, but the stalemate was eventually resolved as Howard’s deal was reworked.

It would be interesting to see what type of package the Dolphins could receive for a player of Howard’s caliber. The 28-year-old isn’t set to become a free agent until the 2025 offseason, so the Dolphins will have leverage in trade talks.

So far this season, Howard has appeared in five games, registering six passes defended, an interception, forced fumble and fumble recovery.

The NFL’s trade deadline is set for Nov. 2.
