Miami Dolphins legend Dan Marino issues message of extreme confidence regarding Tua Tagovailoa
- Updated: August 25, 2021
Miami Dolphins legendary quarterback Dan Marino is confident in Tua Tagovailoa’s ability to lead the Dolphins this season.
Dan Marino on Tiki+Tierney: “(Tua) has a better understanding of where he wants to go with the football. And dealing with protections, he’s done a really good job with that…Tua has been our guy and we’re going to stick with him…He’s excited about the season. And he’s healthy.”

Tagovailoa, who was the No. 5 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, had an up-and-down rookie season, but Marino thinks he is poised to breakout in his second campaign.
As a rookie, Tagovailoa threw for 1,814 yards, 11 touchdowns and five interceptions in 10 games (nine starts).
While he did take the starting job from Ryan Fitzpatrick, Tagovailoa was also benched in favor of Fitzpatrick in games against the Denver Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders.
The Dolphins still went 10-6 last season, and if Tagovailoa develops, Miami could be a playoff team in the 2021 season.
Marino is widely regarded as one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history, so Dolphins fans should be excited that he thinks so highly of the 23-year-old at this point in his career.
