The Miami Dolphins have slowly been bringing back rookie Jaelan Phillips from an injury. The 22-year-old did not play in the Dolphins’ first preseason game against the Chicago Bears on Saturday.
On Wednesday, the University of Miami product was able to get some work in with the first team, something he was extremely excited about.
“I’ve been itching, crawling out of my skin, to get back,” Phillips said. “I’m definitely feeling better. The trainers and coaches have been guiding my recovery. Last week, I was able to get into one of the practices [with Chicago but didn’t play in the preseason game]. Today [Wednesday], I was able to get in. I feel good.”
Phillips was chosen by the Dolphins in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, and he figures to have an important role on the team during the upcoming season.
Throughout his collegiate career, Phillips accumulated 86 total tackles, 23.5 tackles for loss and 12.5 sacks.
The key for him at the professional level will be staying healthy. He suffered a plethora of injuries during his time in college.
It will be interesting to see what impact he will be able to make with the Dolphins during the 2021 season. Miami’s regular season begins on Sept. 12 against the New England Patriots.
