Amid a rocky time in relations between the Miami Dolphins and star cornerback Xavien Howard, the defensive standout was reportedly a full participant at practice on Saturday.
As one national reporter indicated, the move could be a major signal that Howard is willing to remain on the team.
The 28-year-old requested a trade earlier in the summer over frustrations with his contract situation, but the Dolphins seem determined to hold onto him. It’s a good sign that he was a full participant at practice today.
Howard is coming off of a fantastic 2020 campaign. He led the league in interceptions with 10 and passes defended with 20. Health is sometimes a concern for the former second-round pick, but when he is on the field, he makes a massive impact.
The Dolphins would have a very different look defensively without him. It’s no surprise that they are trying to resolve the situation.
With the uncertainty regarding his future in Miami, the team brought in four cornerbacks for tryouts on Thursday. While the organization’s top choice is to keep Howard in a Dolphins uniform, it’s always good to have backup plans.
