Phillips was selected with the No. 18 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. He spent three seasons at the collegiate level and overcame a lot of adversity. He ultimately fell right into Miami’s lap in the draft.
Phillips spent two seasons at the University of California, Los Angeles before being forced into retirement due to concussions and other medical issues. He then transferred to the University of Miami and was miraculously able to return to football.
During his 2020 campaign at Miami, he recorded 21 solo tackles and 45 total tackles over 10 games. He also racked up 8.0 sacks and one interception along the way.
Phillips will be a key piece of the Dolphins’ young core moving forward, and with any luck, he will be able to return to action in training camp as soon as he recovers from his current injury.
Phillips was one of the Dolphins’ two first-round picks in the 2021 NFL Draft. Standout wide receiver Jaylen Waddle was the other.
