The Miami Dolphins reportedly are still in the running to acquire Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson.
With Houston open to moving the Pro Bowler, the Dolphins could decide to replace quarterback Tua Tagovailoa with Watson if the opportunity arises.
“The Houston Texans are now willing to listen to trade offers for disgruntled quarterback Deshaun Watson and the Dolphins have not eliminated themselves from the running, according to a source with direct knowledge,” the Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson and Armando Salguero wrote.
“While the Dolphins remain interested to see how Tua Tagovailoa develops, they also continue to do due diligence to see if landing the three-time Pro Bowl quarterback is realistic, the source said.”
Tagovailoa, who was the No. 5 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, started nine games for the Dolphins last season.
He threw for 1,814 yards, 11 touchdowns and five interceptions as a rookie, but the Dolphins certainly could upgrade with Watson.
The issue with acquiring Watson would be the numerous sexual assault allegations that the former first-round pick is currently facing. Last season, Watson threw for 4,823 yards and 33 touchdowns.
While Tagovailoa could turn into a fine player, Watson already has shown he is one of the league’s best quarterbacks, and Miami is doing its due diligence on his availability.
