Brian Flores encourages Tua Tagovailoa to stay aggressive after disastrous minicamp practice

Miami Dolphins second-year quarterback Tua Tagovailoa didn’t have the best day of practice at minicamp on Tuesday, as he threw five interceptions.

Despite that, Dolphins head coach Brian Flores said he will continue to encourage Tagovailoa to be aggressive with his throws.

“I don’t think Tua is going into a shell,” said Flores.

“I tell him to continue being aggressive. … Use this time to practice pushing the ball downfield. Then, we’ll make the adjustments, make the corrections, and we’ll go at it again the next day. That’s the normal progression of how this goes.”

The Dolphins will surely be hoping that Tagovailoa’s performance on Tuesday does not translate into the preseason and regular season. The team is looking to build off of last season, when it went 10-6.

During his rookie season, Tagovailoa played in 10 games and threw for 1,814 yards, 11 touchdowns and five interceptions.

With Ryan Fitzpatrick gone, the 23-year-old Tagovailoa is now the undisputed starter at quarterback. He’ll have to improve upon those numbers greatly if the Dolphins have any serious hopes of making the playoffs.
