Report: Some consider Miami Dolphins drafting Devonta Smith at No. 6 ‘worst-case scenario’

The Miami Dolphins have the No. 6 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, and they appear to be in line to take on the draft’s top skill players.

However, some people consider a scenario where Miami takes Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith a worst-case scenario, according to ESPN’s Cameron Wolfe.

That would mean that the Dolphins miss out of Louisiana State University wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase and University of Florida tight end Kyle Pitts.

“Some consider a scenario where Atlanta drafts Pitts at No. 4 and Chase goes to Cincinnati at No. 5 with Smith falling to Miami at No. 6 a worst-case scenario for the Dolphins,” Wolfe wrote. “I wouldn’t.”

Smith had an unbelievable season at the University of Alabama in 2020.

The senior receiver caught 117 passes for 1,856 yards and 23 touchdowns while winning college football’s most prestigious award.

Miami would like to add another threat to its receiving core that already consists of DeVante Parker and Will Fuller.

While Smith may not be Miami’s top choice, he is still a talented player that has experience playing with Tua Tagovailoa in college.
