Benardrick McKinney admits he was ‘shocked’ to be traded to Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins acquired Benardrick McKinney from the Houston Texans in exchange for Shaq Lawson earlier this offseason.
The deal certainly helps boost Miami’s core at linebacker, but McKinney himself was surprised by the trade.
He also revealed that the Dolphins have yet to approach him about restructuring his contract going forward.
New Dolphins OLB Benardick McKinney said he was shocked to be traded to Dolphins and he has heard no talk of any request to restructure his contract, contrary to a published report.

McKinney, 28, is a one-time Pro Bowler and has played the last six seasons in Houston.
However, McKinney only played in four games last season. He totaled 37 total tackles in those games.
Other than last season, McKinney has been durable in his career, as he has played in 14 or more games in five of his six NFL seasons.
The Dolphins have made some major changes to their defense with the acquisition of McKinney and the departures of Lawson and Kyle Van Noy.
