Miami Dolphins rumors: Ryan Fitzpatrick ‘looking to continue’ NFL career

Despite a recent rumor that Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick may retire this offseason, a new report indicates that the veteran is planning on continuing his NFL career.

Alain Poupart of SI.com indicated that Fitzpatrick is apparently not amongst those who believe that his 16-year career in the league has ended.

“The veteran Miami Dolphins quarterback, who is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent March 17, is looking to continue playing, according to a person close to the situation,” Poupart wrote.

The 38-year-old Fitzpatrick spent the last two seasons with the Dolphins, but was replaced during the 2020 campaign as the team’s starting quarterback by rookie Tua Tagovailoa.

Tagovailoa was the fifth overall pick in last year’s draft and is seen as the Dolphins’ quarterback of the future.

Prior to being benched, Fitzpatrick was still putting up solid numbers for the Dolphins and his late-game heroics in the Dec. 26 game against the Las Vegas Raiders helped keep the Dolphins’ playoff hopes alive.

A number of different teams are looking for quarterbacks this offseason, which should make things interesting when free agency gets underway next week.
