Report: Ryan Fitzpatrick believes he can compete for starting job with some team next season

Miami Dolphins veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick reportedly believes that he can compete for a starting job with a team next season.

“While the door on Fitzpatrick returning is not totally closed, both sides are going to look around this offseason, I’m told,” the Miami Herald’s Armando Salguero wrote.

“Fitzpatrick believes he’s played well enough the past couple of years to get a chance to at least compete for a starting job with some team. Obviously, that isn’t the Dolphins because of their Tagovailoa commitment.”

Fitzpatrick, 38, was the Dolphins starting quarterback to open the 2020 season, but he was benched for Tua Tagovailoa.

The veteran was 4-3 as a starter this season, and the Dolphins went 10-6 but they missed the playoffs.

Fitzpatrick threw for 2,091 yards, 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions in nine games (seven starts).

Clearly, he believes that he has enough left in the tank to help a team that needs a quarterback next season.
