Brian Flores admits ‘several players’ at Senior Bowl could help Miami Dolphins

After the conclusion of Saturday’s Senior Bowl, Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores noted that a number of players who took part in the annual college all-star game have the potential to help the Dolphins.

“Flores said there [were] several players at the Senior Bowl he felt could help the Dolphins, though he not surprisingly declined to mention any by name,” Alain Poupart of SI.com wrote.

Flores was excited about the invaluable insight he and the Dolphins staff got on NFL prospects.

The opportunity was especially valuable considering the fact that the annual NFL Combine won’t be held this year and in-person assessments of prospects will be reduced due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It was great,” Flores said. “We had a really nice good week with these young players. They really worked hard. A lot of them made really good impressions not only on our staff, but there were teams obviously from across the league. But we got to spend the most time with them. We saw them in meetings, saw them take things from the meetings to the walkthrough to the practice. I thought they all did well for themselves and then came out and competed today, so it was a good week.”

While declining to name any of the “several” players that stood out to him, Flores spoke of the performance of speedy running back Michael Carter from the University of North Carolina, who gained 60 yards and scored one touchdown in the Senior Bowl game.

“First off, he’s a great kid,” Flores said. “He’s a hard-working kid. He’s smart, he’s tough and he was productive today and really productive throughout the entire week. He played well. This is a guy who had a nice career for UNC and he’s a good back.”

Another member of that North Carolina backfield who might be under consideration by the Dolphins is Javonte Williams, who offers a more bruising running style.

Carter is one of two highly rated North Carolina running backs, the other being Javonte Williams. Carter is a speedy back, while Williams is more of a physical runner.

Much like last year, the Dolphins are in a prime position to add some impressive talent to the team’s roster, with four upcoming picks among the first 50 selections.

Among those choices is the third overall draft pick, which may end up being used as trade bait to gain even more assets.
