The Miami Dolphins are hoping to get rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa back from a thumb injury this weekend, but it’s starting to look like Ryan Fitzpatrick may have to serve in his stead for the second straight game.
Tagovailoa missed last week’s win over the New York Jets after injuring his throwing hand in practice. The team is still waiting to see if he has healed enough to retake the field.
“Real possibility Ryan Fitzpatrick starts on Sunday,” Ian Rapoport reported. “But they would like to learn more at today’s practice.”
Of course, Fitzpatrick began the season as the team’s starter. Tagovailoa then took over after the team’s 3-3 start to the season and went on to win his first three starts in the league.
He was hoping to bounce back after a loss to the Denver Broncos, but the injury several days later put an end to that plan.
Whatever happens, the Dolphins are sure to take it as slowly as they feel is appropriate with Tagovailoa’s injury.
That’s not only true because they don’t want him coming back sooner than he should, but also because the Dolphins are now officially in the playoff hunt, and every game going forward is going to play a major role in that pursuit.
