Report: Miami Dolphins among frontrunners to sign Le’Veon Bell

Despite heavy competition for the services of free agent running back Le’Veon Bell, the Miami Dolphins are reportedly one of three teams that could end up signing the three-time Pro Bowler.

The 28-year-old Bell was placed on waivers by the New York Jets and became a free agent on Tuesday, with multiple teams immediately angling to sign the veteran.

One item of note in the list of remaining teams is that all three are scheduled to face Bell’s former team, the New York Jets, over the course of the next three weeks.

While the Dolphins already have six running backs on the roster, the lack of production from this unit is one reason why the team is looking at Bell as a potential option. In the team’s five games this year, the Dolphins have only rushed for 521 yards for 3.7 yards per carry.

On Wednesday, Dolphins head coach Brian Flores offered an enthusiastic endorsement of Bell’s talents, which offered insight into why the team is pursuing the player who spent his first five seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Bell had just returned from a hamstring injury that occurred in the Jets’ season opener, collecting 60 yards on 13 carries in the Jets’ loss to the Arizona Cardinals last Sunday.
