Report: Miami Dolphins to stick with Ryan Fitzpatrick in Week 5

Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has endured a bumpy beginning to the 2020 season, but the team announced that he’ll remain in the starting lineup for Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Fitzpatrick is in his 16th NFL season and second with the Dolphins, who are currently 1-3, and has completed 69.0 percent of his passes, while throwing for 994 yards and four touchdowns.

However, he’s also tossed five interceptions and delivered inconsistent performances in his first four contests. He’s also currently ranked at 28th in the league in terms of passer rating.

That’s raised concerns about what type of performance Fitzpatrick will deliver against the defending NFC champions on the road.

Also fueling speculation about Fitzpatrick’s status as the team’s starter is the push by some to insert rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa into the starting lineup.

While Tagovailoa is the Dolphins’ quarterback of the future, the team’s head coach, Brian Flores, dismissed any talk of putting the rookie in at the present time.

The 37-year-old Fitzpatrick has started 143 of the 160 games he’s played in during his NFL career and has seen ups and downs over his 16 years in the league.

Having entered the NFL as a seventh-round pick in 2005 and playing for eight different teams, Fitzpatrick isn’t likely to be fazed by talk of removing him from the lineup. He’s been around long enough to know that winning games will put an end to such talk.
