Report: Miami Dolphins Waive 2 Defenders With Starting Experience Ahead of Training Camp

The Miami Dolphins continued to reshape their 2020 roster just prior to the start of training camp by waiving defensive end Avery Moss and linebacker Trent Harris.

Both Moss and Harris started games last season for the Dolphins after being acquired on waivers, but the team has undergone a major rebuilding effort during the offseason.

Moss had originally been a fifth-round selection in 2017 by the New York Giants and ended up starting eight of the 11 games he played for the Dolphins in 2019. In those contests, Moss had 25 tackles and also forced a fumble.

Harris was an undrafted free agent out of the University of Miami in 2018 and spent that season with the New England Patriots.

Dolphins head coach Brian Flores, a former New England assistant, picked up Harris last year after he was released and started him in three contests.

In Harris’ 11 games, he collected 22 tackles and 1.5 sacks, while matching Moss with one forced fumble on the year.

The release of Moss and Harris reduces the Dolphins’ roster to 83 players, with the team preparing to officially open up camp on Tuesday.

Due to the continuing coronavirus pandemic, many of the Dolphins veterans will be tested on Tuesday, following last week’s tests of injured players, quarterbacks and rookies.

Amid the unprecedented safety protocols that are being put in place, the Dolphins will seek to spend the camp preparing for the 2020 season, which is set to begin on Sept. 13 against the Patriots.
