Steven Parker Ranked as Miami Dolphins Player Most Likely to Make Statement in Training Camp

Miami Dolphins safety Steven Parker was ranked as the player most likely to make a statement in training camp, according to Bleacher Report’s Brad Gagnon.

Parker played in 14 games for the Dolphins last season after being undrafted out of the University of Oklahoma.

“The Miami Dolphins underwent an exciting makeover this offseason, but the safety position looks wide-open entering training camp,” Gagnon wrote. “Veteran Bobby McCain is likely the projected starter at free safety, but 24-year-old Steven Parker might have more upside than McCain or presumed backup Adrian Colbert following a surprisingly strong debut season.”

Parker started four games for the Dolphins last season, finishing the year with two interceptions and 20 tackles.

McCain underwent shoulder surgery last season, which limited him to just nine games. He will turn 27 prior to the 2020 season, leaving the younger Parker as a potential replacement.

“Parker excelled in coverage in limited playing time, and on tape he also stood out when helping against the run,” Gagnon wrote. “He might not have superstar potential, but his versatility and playmaking ability should give him a chance to push McCain, who is probably better suited as a backup along with Colbert.”

The Dolphins have already revamped their secondary with the addition of cornerback Byron Jones through free agency and the drafting of cornerback Noah Igbinoghene in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Parker could be the latest change that Miami makes as it attempts to improve upon last season’s 5-11 record.
