Report: Numerous Miami Dolphins Offensive Lineman Have Been Meeting Up to Train Regularly

The Miami Dolphins offensive line group had been putting in some serious work together.

Prior to the NFL’s recommendation that players should stop working out together because of growing COVID-19 numbers, both rookie and veteran offensive lineman reportedly were working out together in South Florida.

“A bunch of them — rookies and veterans — had been getting together regularly on a South Florida field not only for conditioning but also to perfect making the correct line calls and beef up on learning the terminology implemented by new offensive line coach Steve Marshall, who is the team’s third offensive line coach in 11 months,” the Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson wrote.

The Dolphins are looking at a revamped offensive line in 2020.

However, with new additions such as guard Ereck Flowers, center Ted Karras and rookies Austin Jackson and Robert Hunt, Miami hopes to improve greatly up front.

“With the transition on the line — Jesse Davis is potentially the only 2019 starter essentially assured of starting in 2020 — the offensive linemen are taking very seriously the need to become as cohesive as quickly as possible,” Jackson wrote. “New left guard Ereck Flowers has been a key component of those sessions, one player said.”

While Flowers and Karras are likely locked into starting spots, there will be some competition elsewhere on the line.

“The Dolphins are still determining whether second-round pick Robert Hunt is better suited to play guard or tackle as a rookie,” Jackson wrote. “There are mixed views on this. Miami believes he can ultimately be a quality right tackle.”

Miami also has been impressed with Jackson’s ability to learn its system, according to Jackson.

Bringing this new unit together before training camp starts can only help Miami find more cohesiveness and consistency from its offensive line.
