Miami Dolphins wide receiver DeVante Parker took time on Saturday to deliver a jab at a rival from the AFC East, New England Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore.
Gilmore has played eight seasons in the NFL, including the last three with the Patriots, and has made the Pro Bowl in three of the last four seasons. Last season, Gilmore led the NFL with six interceptions and returned two of those picks for touchdowns.
In contrast, Parker’s five-year career has been marred in part by injuries, though he’s coming off his best season after grabbing 72 pass receptions last season.
The fact that Parker has no Pro Bowl appearances on his resume likely gives his critics ammunition to use when discounting his assessment.
Yet, it’s clear that Parker is confident that he can build on his 2019 campaign and be a part of making the Dolphins playoff contenders.
It’s also obvious that Parker’s social media activity remains in midseason form. Last month, he and New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas took shots at each other after Parker questioned the quality of Thomas’ receiving totals.
With regard to Gilmore, there’s been no response yet from him about Parker’s jab, but the two should be meeting up with each other during the Dolphins-Patriots game on Sept. 13.
