Report: Miami Dolphins Trade Charles Harris to Atlanta Falcons for Future Draft Pick

The Miami Dolphins have traded defensive end and former first-round selection Charles Harris in exchange for a 2021 seventh-round draft pick from the Atlanta Falcons.

“The Atlanta Falcons have agreed to trade their seventh-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft to the Miami Dolphins for edge rusher Charles Harris,” the Falcons’ official site announced.

Despite being the No. 22 overall pick of the 2017 draft, Harris was never able to put together a breakout season during his three years in Miami, starting in just eight of his 41 games.

The lack of production helps explain the limited return the Dolphins received in the deal.

Harris’ most productive season came as a rookie in 2017, when he had five tackles for loss, two sacks, two pass deflections and one fumble recovery.

The woeful state of the Dolphins’ 2019 pass rush was evident by the fact that they were only able to pick up 23 sacks on the season.

Efforts to address the lingering issue include the addition of free-agent signee Emmanuel Ogbah and last week’s drafting of Jason Strowbridge and Curtis Weaver.

In another effort to shake things up, the Dolphins released defensive end Taco Charlton on Thursday, who led the team in sacks last season.

Exactly when the new members of the Dolphins defensive line will be able to come together remains uncertain. The continuing coronavirus pandemic has put all sports on hold, and there is still no indication of when NFL training camps will begin.
