The Miami Dolphins are looking to move up as high as the No. 3 pick in the NFL draft this evening, but their sights were originally set much higher.
According to a recent report, the Dolphins called the Cincinnati Bengals multiple times over the last couple of weeks to inquire about the No. 1 overall pick.
There is little doubt that the Dolphins would have been happy to send a massive trade package to the Bengals in exchange for the No. 1 pick. The reason why is because quarterback Joe Burrow would have been their prize.
Burrow had arguably the greatest collegiate season in history last year. He threw for 5,671 years and added a jaw-dropping 60 touchdowns to just six interceptions. He also finished the season with a completion percentage of 76.3, the highest completion percentage in the history of college football.
The 6-foot-4 gunslinger also has the leadership qualities and charisma that NFL teams dream about when it comes to young quarterbacks.
Despite the Dolphins’ wishes, it appears abundantly clear that they will not end up getting a chance draft Burrow.
However, with three picks in the first round this evening, they have more than enough opportunities to fill the roster with young talent.
