During his opening press conference with the media in Miami on Aug. 7th, Cutler admitted that he wasn’t quite in proper football shape yet as a result of retirement life.

“The good thing is I play quarterback so I don’t have to be in that great cardiovascular shape,” Cutler said with a smile.

For the 2017-18 NFL season, Cutler originally planned to pursue a post-NFL career in sports media when he agreed to sign on with FOX to become a broadcaster.

However, the brief time off from football doesn’t bother Cutler very much at all and believes he’s in the right situation with the Dolphins.

“I don’t think I really ever lost it,” Cutler said on Monday. “Just kind of channeled it in a different direction. I still wanted to be in football and still wanted to be around it, and I was going to have that opportunity through FOX. Then once this new opportunity arose, it seemed like a natural fit for me.”
