On Sunday, the Miami Dolphins released 11 players from their active roster following the team’s 13-9 victory over the Atlanta Falcons on Saturday night according to the team’s front office.
The team announced they released defensive tackle Calvin Barnett, guard Bryant Browning, wide receiver LaRon Byrd, wide receiver Kevin Cone, defensive end Ray Drew, wide receiver Tyler McDonald, defensive end Kendall Montgomery, tight end Gerell Robinson, cornerback Sammy Seamster, safety Phillip Thomas and center/guard J.D. Walton.
Although most of these roster cuts shouldn’t come as a surprise, the release of Byrd and Robinson may open some eyes considering their strong training camp.
Byrd had only two catches for 51 yards, but his 34-yard diving reception against the Chicago Bears was a highlight reel play. Robinson, who had a 56-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter against the Carolina Panthers this preseason, was competing for a backup tight end spot behind Jordan Cameron and Dion Sims.
The Dolphins still have to make two roster moves in order to get down to the NFL-mandated 75 active players by 4 pm ET on Tuesday.
