Saints safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson insinuates Xavien Howard will join team

The Miami Dolphins are probably holding out hope that Xavien Howard will eventually rejoin the team. However, the cornerback seems intent on sitting out until he gets a restructured contract.

Several teams have reportedly expressed interest in acquiring the services of the 28-year-old amidst the contract dispute.

It is unclear if the New Orleans Saints are among those teams. However, Saints safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson recently implied that Howard could be heading to New Orleans.

Adding Howard could definitely improve the Saints defense. However, the Dolphins have not indicated that their second-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft is on the trading block.

If Miami does decide to deal Howard to another team, it could certainly net a great package in return.

But the Dolphins would still probably be better off finding a way to retain the 2020 All-Pro selection.

Howard has been one of the league’s best defensive players in recent years. Last season, he led the league in interceptions and pass deflections.
