Xavien Howard officially requests trade from Miami Dolphins

With NFL training camps opening around the league, Miami Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard has reportedly been engaged in a contract dispute with management.

Now, he wants out of Miami.

Xavien Howard Statement

Howard, 28, is one of the better corners in pro football. Last season, he had 10 interceptions and 20 defended passes, leading the NFL in both categories.

His statistical production in 2020 was enough to land him his second trip to the Pro Bowl.

The Dolphins are largely a young team that is building for the future, but that won’t necessarily preclude them from making a “win-now” type of move.

One potential move that has been discussed is trading for Houston Texans star quarterback Deshaun Watson. Although the Dolphins are bullish on Tua Tagovailoa, Watson, 25, is one of the best quarterbacks in the game, and he is coming off his best season.

Howard could presumably be included in any deal for Watson.
