It does not appear that Fitzpatrick’s absence is related to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Fitzpatrick issue is not a COVID issue, we're told. His representation has declined to discuss his absence or when he might return.

The Dolphins are preparing for the start of the upcoming season.
Fitzpatrick, 37, is expected to be the Dolphins’ starting quarterback when the campaign commences.
However, superstar rookie Tua Tagovailoa is on Fitzpatrick’s tail. The No. 5 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft is one of the most highly anticipated prospects in Dolphins history.
While Tagovailoa is expected to be the face of the Dolphins in the future, he will likely play behind Fitzpatrick to start the season.
After all, the 22-year-old Tagovailoa is coming off a major injury. The University of Alabama product suffered a serious hip injury during his last season in college, which forced him to cease his final collegiate season early.
As for Fitzpatrick, the journeyman threw for 3,529 yards and 20 touchdowns with a completion percentage of 62.0 percent last season.
