The Miami Dolphins ruled out Kadyn Proctor for Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots, leaving Jarrett Kingston in line to replace him at left guard.
Proctor missed all three practices this week with a concussion and received an out designation on Miami’s final injury report Friday. Cornerbacks JuJu Brents and Reese Taylor were listed as questionable.
The decision confirmed the concern head coach Jeff Hafley expressed earlier Friday, when he said Proctor remained in concussion protocol and would not practice.
“It is not looking very good for Sunday,” Hafley said.
Miami had already been preparing without Proctor during the week, as outlined in Thursday’s Dolphins-Patriots injury update. His final designation now makes the change up front necessary.
Jarrett Kingston in line to replace Kadyn Proctor
Kingston would be handling a different assignment from his previous relief appearance against Cincinnati. He filled in at right guard in that game, while Proctor’s absence creates an opening on the left.
Hafley cited Kingston’s work against the Bengals when discussing the replacement plan Friday and said the transition had gone well during the week.
“Switching sides, he’s looked good in practice,” Hafley said.
The distinction matters when assessing Kingston’s preparation. His earlier appearance gave Miami game experience to evaluate at right guard, while this week’s practices gave the staff a look at him in the spot he is expected to occupy against New England.
Kingston addressed the potential start Friday with an emphasis on trusting his ability.
“I know that I can play and I just have to go out there and be confident,” Kingston said.
JuJu Brents, Reese Taylor questionable against Patriots
Brents completed a full practice Friday after missing Wednesday’s session and participating on a limited basis Thursday. He remained questionable with neck and concussion injuries, so the increase in his workload did not settle his availability.
Taylor also practiced fully Friday but carried a questionable designation because of a quadriceps injury. Those two cornerback decisions remain unresolved even as Miami knows it must replace Proctor on offense.
Quarterback Malik Willis, listed with a groin injury, practiced fully throughout the week and received no game designation.
Greg Dulcich, Will Kacmarek and Malik Washington also finished Friday as full participants without game designations.
New England has uncertainty of its own. Receiver A.J. Brown, dealing with ankle and knee injuries, and running back TreVeyon Henderson, listed with an illness, are both questionable after missing Thursday’s and Friday’s practices.
