It’s no secret that the Miami Dolphins and cornerback Jalen Ramsey are likely headed for a split in a move that is said to be in everyone’s best interest.
Recently, Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver hinted that relationship struggles led to the trade saga.
“In this game, things change by the day,” Weaver said. “I have a tremendous amount of respect of Ramsey. He played very good ball for us but relationships are hard. Both sides have mutually chosen to go the other way. I respect that and wish him nothing but the best.”
Back in April, after trade rumors surfaced regarding Ramsey, Dolphins insider Omar Kelly reported that he had heard rumblings about Ramsey’s desire to “jump ship” for “weeks” already. It was April 15 that the trade rumors officially became public.
“Most of the league” had heard from either the Dolphins or Ramsey’s camp by late April, based on a report from OutKick’s Armando Salguero.
The Los Angeles Rams are one team that has been linked to Ramsey in rumors. Ramsey actually carved out a highly productive stint with the Rams not all that long ago, and Rams head coach Sean McVay has said that he would “never rule out” the possibility of a Ramsey reunion in Los Angeles.
Ramsey’s tenure with the Dolphins seems all but over, and he’s spent only two seasons with the franchise. He’s earned one Pro Bowl nod as a Dolphin and played in all 17 of their contests in the 2024 season after he was limited to merely 10 appearances (plus one playoff appearance) in his first season in a Dolphins uniform.
But on the bright side, the Dolphins drafted a player that could help soften the blow of Ramsey’s likely departure with one of their many picks in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Dolphins used a fifth-round pick on cornerback Jason Marshall, who played four seasons at the University of Florida.
While Ramsey has been on the trade block for a long time, which has led to some questions about when he will be moved, people should still surmise that he’ll be playing for another one of the NFL’s 32 teams by the time the 2025 season starts up.
