Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill made headlines earlier in the week for a post he made on X. The post suggested that his future with the team may be up in the air, as he expressed a desire to get some coaching reps under his belt.

Hill cleared the air on his cryptic social media post recently and explained that he has no desire to get traded out of Miami.

“I just be lookin’ at stuff and then I just tweet, you know what I’m sayin’?” Hill said of his post. “No grammar — I be needin’ some grammar corrections and everything else. But what I meant was when I say it’s time for me to go coach, meaning that when you see guys like Teddy Bridgewater, when you see guys like Michael Vick getting these head coaching jobs, it’s like, ‘Bruh, I wanna be a coach also when I’m done playin’.’ That’s all I meant by it. I ain’t mean it by like I wanna get traded or I wanna leave Miami. I’m in a great situation here.”
Hill and the Dolphins will be fighting for their playoff lives when they take on the San Francisco 49ers on Dec. 22. According to NFL.com, if Miami picks up its second loss in a row, the team will have less than a one percent chance of qualifying for the playoffs.
Conversely, a win would elevate the Dolphins’ playoff odds to nine percent before the last two games on its regular-season schedule.
It’s worth noting that the 49ers will be severely lacking in depth at the running back position when the two teams do battle. On Friday, San Francisco ruled out Isaac Guerendo for the contest, and Christian McCaffrey, Jordan Mason and Elijah Mitchell are down for the count as well with injuries.
In order for the Dolphins to keep their playoff hopes alive, they might need Hill to step his game up after he was unspectacular in Miami’s loss to the Houston Texans on Dec. 15. He totaled just 36 receiving yards — his fewest in a single game in over a month — and two receptions in the team’s 20-12 defeat.
Hill didn’t even lead the Dolphins in receiving yards. That distinction went to rookie receiver Malik Washington, who’s shown some promise in spurts this season. He ended up with 52 receiving yards on five receptions and has appeared in 11 games for Miami up to this point.
The Dolphins are slated to take on a 49ers team that is also still technically in the playoff hunt, though its odds of qualifying are long. Regardless of the outcome of Sunday’s contest, San Francisco’s chances of being a playoff team will be less than one percent, per the NFL. The 49ers played in the Super Bowl less than one year ago.
