A study from BACtrack revealed that Miami Dolphins fans are among the top 10 drunkest fan bases in the NFL.

The study analyzed over 28,000 anonymous blood alcohol content results to determine which fan base drank the most during the 2023-24 NFL season, with the Dolphins clocking in at No. 6 with an average BAC of 0.079 percent.

NFL's drunkest fan bases

The five fan bases that are considered the “drunkest” in the study are those of the Tennessee Titans, Pittsburgh Steelers, Indianapolis Colts, Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints.

The study also revealed the fan bases that drank the least in the 2023-24 season. The teams on that list include the Kansas City Chiefs, Washington Commanders, New York Giants, Baltimore Ravens and Los Angeles Chargers.

Kansas City had the lowest average BAC, coming in at 0.051 percent.

It’s also interesting to note that each of the top five drunkest fan bases all reached or were above the legal threshold of impairment that makes driving unsafe (0.08 percent). Dolphins fans fell just short of this number on average.

BACtrack anonymously took the data from users of the BACtrack app, which syncs with smartphone compatible BACtrack breathalyzers.

While the study has no effect on how the Dolphins perform on the field, it is interesting to see how much fans are drinking during Dolphins games. The team certainly had a strong advantage at Hard Rock Stadium in the 2023 season, winning seven of its nine home games.

The Dolphins had a strong 2023 season, but the team faltered down the stretch, falling into a wild card spot in the AFC after losing out on the AFC East division title with a loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week 18.

That led to a matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs in the first round of the playoffs, and the Dolphins struggled to score, losing 26-7 in Kansas City. Things may have been different had the team been able to secure a home game in the first round by winning the division.

The Chiefs went on to win the Super Bowl, so at least Miami lost to the best team in the NFL in the playoffs.

It’ll be interesting to see if the Dolphins land in the same spot amongst the league’s drunkest fan bases if BACtrack decides to continue this study in the 2024 season.
