Jeff Wilson Jr. is evidently in danger of being inactive for the Miami Dolphins on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.

The veteran running back is listed as doubtful on the Week 6 injury report with ribs/finger injuries. The Dolphins opened the 21-day window to activate the 27-year-old this week after he started the season on injured reserve.

Dolphins offensive coordinator Frank Smith had an optimistic outlook for Wilson’s return earlier in the week, but it looks like he will miss at least one more game. The Dolphins this week placed running back De’Von Achane on injured reserve after he suffered a knee injury last Sunday in a 31-16 win against the New York Giants.

It looks like the Dolphins will enter Sunday with Raheem Mostert as their lead back and Chris Brooks and Salvon Ahmed behind him. Ahmed returned to practice this week after missing time with a groin injury.

Center Connor Williams has been ruled out for Sunday with a groin injury. Pass rusher Jaelan Phillips and fullback Alec Ingold are both listed as questionable.

Wide receiver Braxton Berrios, who began the week on the injury report with a knee injury, no longer has a designation.

The Dolphins are looking for their fifth win in six games this season and are a big betting favorite against the Panthers. As things currently stand, Miami leads the league in total offense, passing offense, rushing offense and points per game, which could allow the team to be a little more patient with Wilson, who has a long injury history. Last season was his first in five NFL campaigns that he did not miss multiple games.

Recently acquired wide receiver Chase Claypool may make his Dolphins debut after starting the season with the Chicago Bears. Following a trade last week, the 25-year-old has impressed with his size and physical traits.

The Dolphins certainly have to beware of looking ahead to next week, when they have a blockbuster matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles on tap. Perhaps Wilson will be ready to contribute for that big game.
