Report: New York Jets interested in former Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill
- Updated: February 16, 2023
The New York Jets reportedly are interested in current Tennessee Titans and former Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill this offseason.
A QB to watch for the #Jets is Ryan Tannehill. They are higher on him than people believe, per @Connor_J_Hughes.

New York is looking to upgrade at quarterback after former first-round pick Zach Wilson struggled in the 2022 campaign.
Wilson was benched in favor of Mike White, and the Jets ended up starting three quarterbacks (Wilson, White and veteran Joe Flacco) in the 2022 season.
Tannehill is under contract with the Titans through the 2023 season, and he has two voided years on his contract (2024 and 2025), per Spotrac.
The Jets would likely need to make a deal for Tannehill unless the Titans decide to release him this offseason. Tennessee drafted quarterback Malik Willis in the 2022 NFL Draft, but he struggled in limited playing time as a rookie.
Tannehill was the No. 8 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft by the Dolphins. He spent the first six seasons of his NFL career in Miami, starting 88 games.
The Dolphins were 42-46 in the games that Tannehill started. The former first-round pick seemed to resurrect his career in Tennessee, leading the team to the playoffs in the 2019, 2020 and 2021 seasons. However, Tennessee took a major step back last season and missed the playoffs.
Tannehill appeared in 12 games for the Titans in the 2022 season, leading them to a 6-6 record in those games. He completed 65.2 percent of his passes for 2,536 yards, 13 touchdowns and six interceptions.
There’s no doubt that a veteran like Tannehill would be an upgrade for the Jets over Wilson, which is something that the Dolphins and their fans wouldn’t like to see ahead of the 2023 season.
Miami made the playoffs last season, earning the No. 7 seed in the AFC, but the AFC East division was tough with the Jets and New England Patriots right on Miami’s heels.
The Buffalo Bills won the division last season, so Miami would be in a tough spot if the Jets improved their roster, especially at quarterback, heading into the 2023 campaign.
Tannehill dealt with an injury to end the 2022 season, so New York will want to make sure that he is healthy enough to play at a high level before pursuing him in the offseason. Even though Wilson has played just two seasons in the NFL, the Jets appear intent on making a change at quarterback this offseason.
