Report: New Orleans Saints plan to interview Brian Flores for head coaching vacancy
- Updated: January 28, 2022

The New Orleans Saints reportedly plan to interview former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores for their head coaching vacancy.
Flores reportedly is also a finalist for the New York Giants’ head coaching position.
Saints plan to interview former Dolphins’ HC Brian Flores, who is a finalist for the NY Giants HC job, per source.
First things first, though; a decision from the NY Giants on their head coach is expected this weekend, and Flores is one of their finalists.

The Saints are in the market for a new head coach after Sean Payton decided to step away from the team. Payton had been with the organization for 16 years.
Flores spent three seasons with Miami, leading the Dolphins to two winning seasons. The Dolphins did not make the playoffs during Flores’ tenure, but they came close. Many people were stunned to learn of Flores’ firing.
Over his three seasons in Miami, Flores compiled a 24-25 record and won 10 games in the 2020 season after going 5-11 in his first season as the team’s head coach.
The Dolphins began the 2021 season just 1-7, but they turned things around to win seven straight games and eventually finished with a 9-8 record.
New Orleans also missed the postseason in the 2021 campaign. The squad lost quarterback Jameis Winston along the way, which was a brutal blow to the team’s playoff hopes. The Saints were still able to finish with a winning record, however, as they went 9-8.
Payton’s decision to leave the organization could lead to a reset for the franchise, as the Saints have serious issues with their salary cap ahead of the 2022 season.
The Saints are $74 million over the cap and don't have a QB. I'd be interested in leaving too.
(sorry to the 'cap isn't real' people)

Flores seems destined to land a head coaching position somewhere after being let go by Miami. Time will tell if he ends up with the Saints.
