Here’s how the NFL playoffs will decide where the Miami Dolphins pick in the 1st round of the 2022 NFL Draft
- Updated: January 22, 2022

The Miami Dolphins might not be in the playoffs this year, but there is still something on the line for the organization during the 2022 postseason.
The Dolphins own the San Francisco 49ers’ first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, and the position of that pick will depend on how the playoffs unfold.
Dolphins draft pick from 49ers will be No. xx if:
25- SF L, CIN W in div round
26- SF L, CIN L in div round
29- SF L in NFC Championship as long as CIN isn’t AFC Championship loser
30- SF, CIN both lose in conference championship
31- SF loses Super Bowl
32- SF wins Super Bowl— David Furones (@DavidFurones_) January 22, 2022
With the 49ers facing a stiff playoff challenge on Saturday against the Green Bay Packers, some clarity on the draft pick may become available in the near future.
Should the 49ers lose on Saturday, how the Cincinnati Bengals do in their road playoff game against the Tennessee Titans will also help determine where the Dolphins pick.
The Dolphins will no doubt be rooting for the Packers on Saturday with the draft pick in mind.
Aside from playoff games that have implications on the draft pick, people within the Dolphins organization may also be closely watching the Buffalo Bills’ road playoff contest against the Kansas City Chiefs.
That’s because of the Dolphins’ apparent interest in Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll. One betting website indicated that Daboll is the favorite to land the Miami head coaching job.
One of the main reasons why Daboll might be the favorite is his past connection with Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Daboll was on the University of Alabama’s coaching staff during Tagovailoa’s time at the school.
The hope is that there are brighter days ahead for the Dolphins. It figures to be a pivotal offseason for the organization.
