Report: Tua Tagovailoa expected to be the Miami Dolphins’ starting quarterback for the 2022 season
- Updated: January 15, 2022
In a seemingly big development, Tua Tagovailoa is reportedly expected to be the starting quarterback for the Miami Dolphins next season.
It sounds like the organization has “firm support” for the young quarterback.
“The Dolphins head into their search for a new coach with firm support for their quarterback,” wrote NFL insider Ian Rapoport.
“Tua Tagovailoa is expected to be the quarterback for the 2022 season, sources say, barring some sort of unforeseen occurrence. The organization’s belief in him as their starter is considered significant, and it appears the search for a flashy replacement is over.
“The franchise that famously coveted Deshaun Watson for most of 2021 wants to build around and support Tagovailoa, rather than move on from him.
“A new head coach will, source says, have the opportunity to evaluate every facet of the football team, including the QB. But the hope is to find a candidate who believes in him and can bring the best out of him.”
It does not sound like Watson will end up with the Dolphins. Instead, it seems Tagovailoa will get a chance to prove to Miami that he’s capable of getting the team to the playoffs.
The Dolphins went 9-8 this season and narrowly missed the playoffs. The hope is that next season will yield a different outcome.
Next season will be Tagovailoa’s third at the NFL level. Time will tell if he meets the Dolphins’ expectations.
